Wireless broadband internet can be used in more and more rural areas. The speeds of wireless internet connection in such areas are usually comparable to DSL and cable modem, while DSL or cable modem services can be very expensive in these areas. Though, even with wireless internet service an external antenna may be required.

Various cell phone service providers are now also offering wireless broadband services. These services are a good solution for very mobile users. The services require the use of a special PC card with a built-in antenna, which plugs into the laptop. This method usually offers lower speeds.
